Rohit Sharma Replaces Virat Kohli as India’s ODI Captain: India Announce Test Squad for SA Tour
The All-India Senior Selection Committee chose Rohit Sharma as India’s full-time ODI captain as they unveiled the Test team for their upcoming tour to South Africa.
Rohit will take over as the team’s limited-overs captain from Virat Kohli, who stood down as T20I captain following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Rohit was also named vice-captain of the India Test team, taking over from Ajinkya Rahane. For their three-match ICC World Test Championship series in South Africa, which begins on December 26, the selection committee named an 18-member squad led by Kohli.
Rohit, along with KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami, made their Test comeback after missing the home series against New Zealand.
In a pace-heavy roster, Shardul Thakur made his comeback, while Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, and Rahul Chahar were all injured and were not considered for selection.
